Lehr Performance Watercraft (LPW) is the performance shop of Paul Lehr in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. LPW has been tuning and building watercraft engines for 44 years — since 1982. The shop specializes in Yamaha and Kawasaki two-stroke twins, the engines behind much of competitive jet ski racing and Freestyle, with stand-ups and Sport boats as its specialty.
Everything happens in house. Lehr runs a full performance machine shop, which means an engine can be stripped, measured, machined, ported and rebuilt under one roof instead of being sent out to several different shops.
Lites / Stock class racing is the true test of the shop. Building stock-class engines, where limited or virtually no modifications are allowed, is where the experience comes in. Many steps of detailed work go into these motors. A perfectly set-up Lites package is strong, fast and consistent.
Specialized engine porting is at the heart of the Mod motor. Porting alters the powerband and changes how and where the power gets developed. This work is mainly for Mod class racing, Freestyle and Freeride.
The shop builds LP Brand PV stroker Freestyle engines, plus OEM-based race and freeride motors. Stroking increases an engine's displacement for more torque and a wider powerband, which is exactly what a rider wants coming out of a buoy turn or launching Big Air in Freestyle.
A programmable ignition upgrade is essential to making a modified watercraft run at peak performance. Stock and some aftermarket ignitions are restrictive when it comes to matching the timing curve to the motor mods, and fine tuning has become critical to releasing an engine's performance. LPW has partnered with Zeeltronic watercraft ignitions to develop the very best in setup and technical support. Years of performance tuning have given LPW the experience needed to get the holeshot and run full on to the checkered flag.
The LPW Exclusive MS01 Total Loss ignition has now set the standard in Big Trick competition Freestyle.
Pick your style of ride — LPW is your performance advantage. It takes experience to build not only a fast motor, but one that actually finishes the race, more times than not on the top positions of the podium. For the surf freerider, that means not being a liability: you need the power to rip through sections without failing in the worst of situations. For the freestyler, it means a setup that pulls hard and doesn't sign off when it's needed most. The experience to get the job done right, the first time.
Lehr Performance Watercraft is a proud sponsor of Team Goatcher Racing, and the fit is obvious. Our riders race two-stroke classes where a few horsepower and a consistent power curve decide positions, and every hour spent in the machine shop shows up on the water. Having a shop like Lehr close to home in Lake Havasu City keeps the team's skis sharp through a long season.
